Billy Davies came into wine as son of Jack and Jamie Davies of Schramsberg and as godson of legendary Martin Ray. Arriving in the Napa Valley in 1965, Billy peered from a pick-up truck as Jack steered the rutted way up Diamond Mountain to Schramsberg. To a vacant Victorian with bats circling through and no furniture but a grand piano. Jamie arrived a week later with Johnny - pregnant with Hughie..

Billy D. went on to pick grapes into wooden lug boxes and speak Spanish with Jaimito, Teresa, Conchita, Efren, Chato, and a dozen other “muchachos.” Pruning vines in frozen dawn, running a Caterpillar tractor, stacking champagne bottles in hand-dug caves. Then sales jobs with Southern Wine & Spirits, Beringer, Trefethen, and Cuvaison. And at Schramsberg as Director of Sales and Marketing. A son of entrepreneurs, Billy D. couldn't help branching out to start new ventures too. Like Origin-Napa, The Farm, and Mendocino Grove. Later to teach wine business at Cal Poly.

Today comes Billy D. Wines. Back where things began. A new wine business with roots in a 60s-70s Napa Valley that was a blast. Returning to lost and found grapes like Chenin Blanc, Carignan, Napa Gamay, and Charbono. Working with organic, old vines of the North Coast, and as a negociant too. Taking the best from great times.
